«The private sector actively implements the UN SDGs 2030 but we have to scale up. If we continue like up today, we will not achieve the Goals». This was the key message given by John Denton, the new Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce at the SDG Business Forum organised in the context of the HLPF at the UN in New York on 17th July 2018.
ICC Switzerland participated in the official Swiss Delegation to the High Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2018. The HLPF annually analyses the status of implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 adopted three years ago. The technical and political discussions were complemented by numerous side events. This facilitated the interaction between business, NGOs and government representatives.
The SDGs shall not be perceived as a new burden but as an opportunity for business. Swiss companies substantially contribute to the implementation of the SDGs as a new ICC report shows. Further, a special movie (see below) shows examples of how Caran d’Ache, Firmenich, J. Safra Sarasin Bank and Nestlé implement the SDGs in their daily activities. This movie was first launched at a special dinner organised by USCIB (ICC USA) and supported by ICC Switzerland. The movie was very well received. It was produced by the Global Compact Network Switzerland which is hosted by ICC Switzerland.
